The Dauphine stage race passes through Bourg D’Oisans
8th June, 2013
The Dauphine is a classic Tour de France warm up - not just because it’s ideal timing
for a last block of training/racing for the pro riders before the tour, but also
because they often replicate one of the tour stages. Last year it was the time trial
(which was an identical route to the one in the tour); this year iit’s today’s stage
which includes the ascent of Alpe d’Huez and then the Col de Sarennes - plus the
same descent back down to Bourg D’Oisans as they’ll do on July 18th. Today’s Dauphine
stage doesn’t include a second ascent of Alpe d’Huez though - they’ll head out of
Bourg and over the Col D’Ornon towards the finish in SuperDevoluy.
So as I was in town anyway, I did some errands, bought some fresh bread at the boulangerie,
stopped off at one of the market stalls for some cheese and then wandered over to
the road - perfect timing as the riders came through about 1 minute later! Unfortunately
the shots are a little distorted, as I only had my camera phone, but maybe I’ll head
back down for when they pass by again in an hour and a half or so!
