La Berarde

La Berarde.....not actually a Col as the road is a dead end but still one of my favorite rides, this takes you up past the Village of Venosc (which is well worth stopping off to check out the touristic little village and maybe get a drink). The road steepens up a switchback section before arriving at Saint Christophe en Oisans, and then eases off for the last part up to La Berarde.  This last section includes a narrow road with steep drops to one side so those who are little nervous of heights will want to take it easy along here!  As this route is in the heart of the Ecrins National Park, the scenery is stunning.  Your destination, La Berarde, has a number of cafes and small restaurants where you can refuel before heading home!

Near to La Berarde Just past St. Christophe

La Berarde is a popular destination for climbers and walkers as well, having many walking trails and climbs in the area.  There is a mountain guide association based in Saint Christophe through whom you can arrange ½ day to 4 day climbing / hiking expeditions (fully guided with all training, food, and accommodation in mountain refuges provided).
