The Croix de Fer has featured 15 times since its first inclusion in the 1947 edition of the Tour de France. It returns in 2012 during stage 11, Albertville - La Toussuire Les Sybelles.
Alllemont, pictured below to the right, lies at the bottom of the Maurienne Valley (which leads to both the Col du Glandon & Col de la Croix de Fer).
360° panoramic views...are your reward when you get to the top of the Col de la Croix de Fer. It follows the same route as the Col du Glandon for the majority of the climb, with the last 5 km or so at a more relaxed slope but taking you higher than the Glandon, and to the edge of the next valley.
