Pretending to be a Pro Cyclist….

I’ve written a blog entry on my website about the Dutch charity event ‘Alpe d’Huzes’ already – where 8000 Dutch ride up Alpe d’Huez up to 6 times to raise money to fight cancer.  This year I managed to get a few photos during the ride up, and due to the enthusiasm and noise from the Dutch supporters it really is easy to believe that you are a pro about to win a mountain stage…..

Supporters with large speakers! Yes they were playing Dutch techno

Alpe d'huzes - Huez
They were pretty much all the way up but there were more supporters by the roadside through Huez
There were a string of cyclists all the way up Alpe d'Huez, all day!

Lots of supporters here – the atmosphere was incredible
The noise was deafening at this point - people would run alongside to give encouragement to those who needed it most (sometimes a helping hand, too)

The link above is to a video clip I took of the last 10 seconds of the busy section (I couldn’t press the start button on my phone!) It had been like that but louder for the previous minute…it gave you an incredible boost!
